Study Abroad
Summer semester of 2017 was one for the books. I had the unique opportunity to Study Abroad while participating in the Vietnam & China Program offered by the College of Business.
Through this program I went from being a local Miami global citizen to a confident resilient one among one of the BRICs nations of advanced economic development, China, and one of the CIVETS emerging nations, Vietnam.
Prior to my study abroad, I thought I had a precise understanding about international business, the Asian community, and cultural diversity. However, I discovered a whole new side to that, one that delivered an understanding of the things that makes us all unique global citizens. I was able to gain firsthand knowledge about how business is conducted in another foreign cultural environment. Not only was I also able to discover one of the seven wonders of the world and other breath taking sites, but I was able to dismantle the common stereotypes about the Asian community.
It was enriching to obtain specific in-country experiences like visiting the historical Vietnam War Cu Chi Tunnels, the Vietnam US Department of Commerce, Coca Cola Vietnam,General Electric Beijing, JD.com, to name a few. Of course, cultural immersion and interaction with the locals was a must in both nations.
Overall, this amazing journey allowed me to become a better version of myself as a global citizen.
I grasped a greater scene of cultural understanding and experience the opportunities regarding international business and management from a globally interconnected way.
