Miami-Dade County Mayor's Executive Leadership Program
During my Spring 2017 semester at FIU, I had the privilege of being among one of the few select Miami student leaders who participated in the Miami-Dade County Mayor's Executive Leadership Program. This consisted of a three phase program followed by weekly meetings with county executives and directors, an assignment to one of the county's department, and leading a group project to address relevant challenges facing the county's community. This also granted me the opportunity to collaborate with county governance and gain valuable knowledge, including what it takes to oversee the largest county in the state of Florida. I am grateful to had been able to meet and engage with top county servant leaders including the county's Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Chair Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Commissioner Rebeca Sosa, Deputy Mayor Russell Benford, as well as other fourteen county department directors.
Miami Dade County- Human Resources Division Internship
Broward County, Port Everglades-Business Division Intern
During my Junior year at FIU, I interned for the Port Everglades Business Division.
This is one of the busiest cruise ports in the world, a leading container port in the state of Florida, and the most active cargo ports in the US. I was able to gain practical knowledge on what it takes to run this economic power house for Broward County and the different facets that link our world through international trade and exotic vacationing. I also assisted the Franchising and Permitting Department, the Human Resources Department, and the Deputy Port Director's office through project development, organizational structures, procedures, and compliance. I was able to participate in leadership meetings, Chief Executive & Port Director summit, and receive valuable mentorship. Being global is inevitable at the port, as international trade and exotic cruise vacations is what makes it the economic power house. Not to mention its foreign-trade zone, that makes the port a highly desirable business hub for world trade. In deed, interning at Port Everglades was a fulfilling experience from which I embarked as a global citizen with competent skills for nearing ventures as a college student and for my professional career.
